(7/30/2006) Well, it's been quite a month! You can see
some of the results below. There have been races with no wind, races
with too much wind, races that we did, and races that we didn't do.
And, big news about WebSailor (read on).
The story of the Night Lighthouse Race:
We sailed in Spinnaker B. We had a great start, and did well
through the channel, the wind was light, but tolerable. In the lake,
the wind came up then died, came up then died, came up then died. We
kept sailing, hoping that someone ahead of us would make it in the time
limit and then we would finish. But NO ONE finished in the time
limit (5 hours), so we finally gave up and motored (we were still at Beach
10 on way back when we started motoring). Got back at 3:15AM.
No race -- the race is rescheduled to September 8 (see below.
It was the depths of summer, and crew vacations
stopped us from sailing the next two races. One of those
was a Sunday, and I sailed with Mark Kubeja on his trimaran Pinguino.
We (he) took a first in his fleet!
We did the 7/19 spin race with crew:
AJ, Mark Kubeja, Judy Tucci and Eric Pollock. It was a long 2x
around W/L race, but we sailed very well and took 6th. Everybody
agreed that we needed that! The
LaFemme was another extremely light air night. Our crew
of: Judy Tucci, Rosemary Briggs, Patty Holstein, and Linda Moorhead
and her daughter fought just finish. It was a tough night, but they
did it! They finished a little at 9PM. Congrats to the team
for their tenacity! Blake Heatwave
#2 was sailed in 15-20kts of air. We had the right
sailplan and did well on the first two legs. The third leg, an
upwind leg on which we should have done well, was not kind to us. Ah
well.... Finally -- one last piece of news: WebSailor
is for sale! I am currently looking at a Hunter 27x (the racing
version of the new 27's). Tracy Buzcak and I went to Huron, OH last
week to look at an early production version of the boat. Contact me
directly if you know of someone who wants to buy WebSailor, or if you want
more info about the 27x.
(7/2/2006) We're back from the Interclub. I'll have to
write the wrap-up later. Suffice it to say that we have many new
bruises and many new stories to tell. The results below are
up-to-date. We finished 5th in Class D,
35th out of 60 boats in the Overall. As MC says, "80% of
life is just showing up!" Looking for comments or links to pictures that used to be
